I couldn't help but cringe at the notion of a reunion project between director Sergio Castellitto (see final pic below) and muse Penelope Cruz - but then again, anything can top the dismal, 2004 relationship drama Don't Move. Expectations are indeed low for Twice Born - as it appears to be a big reveal in the final 15 minutes type of flashback-forward sort of drama, but it has got Emile Hirsch and Cruz going for it.
Though I thought Lou Ye's last picture, the 2011 Toronto Film Fest preemed Love and Bruises was a grating, basically unpleasant piece of art-house cinema, I'm indeed curious as to how the auteur went about creating this murder mystery. She has built a solid career resume in a very short time span with Christophe Honoré, Bertrand Bonello, Quentin Tarantino, Raoul Ruiz, Woody Allen and Michel Gondry's upcoming, "The Foam of the Days," and now Lea Seydoux is set to topline Abdellatif Kechiche's film adaptation of Blue Is a Hot Color.
"More of a character study than a cautionary or moral tale, The Forgiveness of Blood doesn’t have the intense drama or emotion of Maria, Full of Grace, but it’s a noteworthy effort from Marston."
The thrill of meeting Marjane Satrapi reminded me of being 6 years old at Disney Land when I met the living, breathing Cinderella. Except Cinderella was an actress with a blond wig and Marjane is the real woman behind her autobiographical graphic novel, turned movie, “Persepolis”. The distinctive mole on her nose and her dark sultry eyes rose off the page and appeared in front of me, smoking and speaking with a French accent.
