Tribeca Film Joins the Convo; Neil LaBute’s Thorny “Some Velvet Morning” Gets December Date

Once again, Tribeca Film’s Nick Savva doesn’t need to look too far to find some theatrical slate filler. Among the pile of unbought leftovers from the ’13 edition of Tribeca Film Festival, the U.S. rights to Neil LaBute’s latest drama have been picked up by the indie distrib label. Some Velvet Morning will receive a digital then theatrical (16th) release in December.

Gist: Starring Stanley Tucci and (or versus) Alice Eve, Fred arrives at Velvet’s doorstep, suitcases in tow. He tells her that he has finally left his wife to be with her, news to Velvet since she has not seen him in years and is now friends with Fred’s recently married son. As Fred’s hopes crash to earth during a conversation brimming with passion, remorse, humor and anger, the twisted heart of a fascinating relationship is revealed.

Worth Noting: Last month is was announced that LaBute’s 10th film project would be Dirty Weekend (currently pre-production) which once again stars Alice Eve alongside Matthew Broderick.

Do We Care?: While the ferociousness found in his savage first pair of films (In the Company of Men and Your Friends & Neighbors) has been replaced by consistent stream of items that feel less corrosive in nature, LaBute has been on an interesting creative spurt which includes short film format, writing screenplays for others and of course excels in writing stage plays. For his 9th feature film, LaBute reverts back thematic similar and dialogue heavy beginnings.

New York, NY – October 2, 2013 – Tribeca Film today announced it has acquired all U.S. rights to Neil LaBute’s enigmatic relationship drama Some Velvet Morning starring Academy Award® nominee Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve. The film, written and directed by LaBute and produced by Tim Harms, Daryl Freimark, Michael Corrente, Trent Othick, and David Zander, had its World Premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released theatrically and via on-demand platforms this winter.
