Selected Director Filmography

He began his schooling and his filmmaking skills as a writer for 70’s television shows, but Michael Mann’s first break-out feature came with the 1981 feature starring James Caan entitled Thief. It is his writing on Miami Vice which brought him to then write and direct 1986’s Manhunter. After The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Heat (1995) it is 1999’s The Insider that brought the crime writer/director fame with several Best Director noms. In 2001, he made the film Ali and has followed that with the killer Tom Cruise fest in Collateral (2004).
