Athina Rachel Tsangari lives and works between Athens, Greece, and Austin, Texas. Her first short Fit received a Student Academy Award in the experimental category. The Slow Business of Going was voted amongst the year’s best “first” features by the Village Voice Critics Poll, New York, in 2002. MoMA recently acquired a print for its permanent film collection.
Visiting Lecturer at the Radio/TV/Film Department at the University of Texas, at Austin (1998-2001). Founder and artistic director of the Austin-based Cinematexas International Short Film Festival, showcasing experimental cinema, and music from around the world. Video director of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Creative Director of the new Acropolis Museum Opening Ceremony. Designer of large scale HD projections for theatre, and installations. Founding member of HAOS FILM, a creative office, production company and postproduction playground that makes, and promotes work by fellow filmmakers, and visual artists.
