Arthouse will release the doc film sometime this year, perhaps they can time the release of the film with a garbage strike. Countdown will be released July 9th.

“Waste Land” follows world-renowned Brazilian artist Vik Muniz through an emotional journey in the world’s largest landfill on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro – in a place called Jardim Gramacho. Over three years, Muniz photographed people who inhabited the trash city and the art objects they created out of the trash. Muniz sold these photos at auction to help raise money for the people of Jardim Gramacho. The film not only shows the transformative power of art, but also the triumph of the human spirit.
