The story of The Dive will revolve around Ferreras' romance and marriage to Mestre (Hayek), and her untimely death in October 2002. She died while attempting to break the world record off the coast of the Dominican Republic. Freediving is a burgeoning extreme sport in which participants zip hundreds of feet undersea after taking only a single breath of air, then race to the surface attached to a sled pulled by an inflated balloon.
