Scripted by David DiGilio and Mike Rich, the project (formerly titled Antarctica) is the fact-based story of two explorers who head toward Antarctica in search of a meteorite but are forced to leave their sled dogs and turn back. Walker plays a National Geographic reporter who retraces his steps with a rescue team. Biggs plays the field engineer at the base, Greenwood a university professor who joins Walker on the expedition. Bloodgood plays a pilot who helps them.

Disney got into the film by buying remake rights to a version of the film that was made in Japan.
