"49" is the story of a veteran firefighter who, while trapped in what could be the fire that will kill him, looks back over his professional life, his heroic career and his family life. Travolta will play Kennedy, Jack's captain who is made fire chief. He sees his firehouse, which includes rookie Jack, as a tight-knit family. Getty will play a seasoned firefighter who is the best friend to the Phoenix character and risks his life to save him. Patrick plays a fireman who tries to save his comrade.
