Cuba, 1958 -- the last year of the Batista regime. Fidel Castro's revolt has the tide going it's way. This turmoil seems distant to the small town of Holguin, where the charismatic fixer Che (Keitel) looks after his family and friends, humoring the local Police while assisting the rebels. As Castro's rebels draw ever closer - the Boy (Mendez) watches endless Hollywood movies, dreamig of glamour, wrapped in magic. One night, as Doris Day flickers across the screen, the lights go out for good. Torn between family loyalty, the painful fires of adolescent passion, and a mysterious American blonde (Hjejle) - the Boy is forced into a strange, harsh new world where beauty and sorrow lie side by side, where idols must die, where there's always a heavy price to pay and where broken dreams sometimes come true.
