This is an adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell novel. Washington will play an embittered former Marine who's persuaded to take a job as bodyguard of the child of a family that has been living under threats from kidnappers. He reluctantly agrees to protect a child, Pinta Balletto (Fanning), whose parents are threatened by a rash of kidnappings. Unexpectedly, the caustic loner befriends the girl only to see his life take another turn when she is kidnapped. When the child is kidnapped and killed accidentally in a botched exchange for a ransom, the soldier devotes himself to avenging her death. Mitchell will play the missing child's mother.
