The film, written by Cuban exile author G. Cabrera Infante, encompasses elements from several of his novels, including "Three Trapped Tigers." Set in the waning golden days of Havana, Garcia will play the owner of a nightspot, one of three brothers caught in Cuba's turbulent transition from the increasingly oppressive regime of Fulgencio Batista to the Marxist government of Fidel Castro in the late 1950s. Castro's regime ultimately leads the club owner to flee to New York. Hoffman will portray Meyer Lansky, who with fellow gangster Lucky Luciano crafted the mob's infiltration into Havana nightlife. Hoffman will portray gangster Meyer Lansky while Murray takes the role as The Writer.
TRIVIA
In 1990, Garcia traveled to London to meet a favorite exiled Cuban novelist, G. Cabrera Infante, who drafted the 300-page first draft of the screenplay, which eventually became the film.

IONCINEMA note: This film will most likely garner plenty of success just on the names themselves-with the likes of Garcia, Duvall, Hoffman, Del Toro, Bardem, and Bratt. I would imagine that the picture will need a female lead-look out for a big name which most likely would not include Julia Roberts since she might have issues with her former beau.
