Based on the role-playing board game of the same name, the story is set in the 23rd century, in which four giant corporations have pillaged the last of the planet's resources, causing a demonic, marauding army of underworld NecroMutants to wage war against humans for what remains. Jane will play a battle-weary Marine who leads a squad of soldiers against the alien hordes. Rea plays the former commander of Lieutenant Mitch Hunter (Jane), a 23rd century Marine who tries to save Earth by leading a band of soldiers against evil NecroMutants. Perlman portrays the leader of a religious sect who thinks he can destroy the mutants and save the planet, recruiting Hunter to join him. Furmann portrays Hunter's former nemesis who joins him to fight for the greater good, and Malkovich appears as the head of a council of corporations that rule the Earth.

Variety reports that producer Ed Pressman's Pressman & Co. Films production company has signed Thomas Jane to topline the project. Simon Hunter will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Ross Jameson. Pressman, Stephan Belafonte, Pras Michel and Tim Dennison will produce, along with Alessandro Camon. Paradox Entertainment's Peter Sederowski and Fred Malmberg will serve as executive producers. The pic is scheduled to start filming in the spring with casting currently under way.
