The Moldovan director (often seen as a Romanian one), Igor Cobileanski, has just completed shooting on his second feature film, Flying Lessons (La limita de jos a cerului). His first feature, Tache, was made for TV and released back in 2007. But that’s not what has made him so well-known in Romania. Cobileanski has got a lot of fans with his comedy short films: Sașa, Grișa and Ion (Sașa, Grișa și Ion) (see below) and When the Lights Go Out (Când se stinge lumina).

He first started shooting Flying Lessons last year, in mid October, in Orhei city, Republic of Moldova, and now the film is in post-production.
Flying Lessons is a bittersweet drama and tells a story about friendship, betrayal and about how people live in a country town. Sergiu Voloc plays a dreamer who earns his living as a drug dealer, while Igor Babac plays the main character, who betrays his best friend for a girl who falls in love with. The cast also includes Ela Ionescu, Igor Caras and Angela Ciobanu.

The film is based on a script written by 12:08 East of Bucharest director Corneliu Porumboiu and Cobileanski and is produced by Saga Film. Director of photography is Oleg Mutu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), while art director is Adrian Suruceanu.
Cobileanski’s second feature has received a 350.000$ from the Romanian National Center for Cinematography and was planned to be released during this year’s autumn. But it seems that some changes have been made and the film will be released no earlier than the spring of 2012.
