2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Raymond Depardon’s Journal de France

Gist: This is a travelogue that documents six years of Depardon and his large-format camera roaming around France. He revisits important places from his past as a reporter – Chad, Venice, Cannes – and rummages through previously unseen footage from his archives – an interview with Jean-Bedel Bokassa, film of Jean-Luc Godard, and other extraordinary glimpses of private and public life.

Prediction: Depardon is pretty familiar with Cannes folk, and we have every reason to assume that this self-reflexive work, which is every bit the dedication to France as it is to his own career, will wander into the familiar Un Certain Regard.
