Through the Looking-Glass…Top 200 Most Anticipated Films of 2017: #5. Denis Villeneuve’s Untitled Blade Runner Sequel

Untitled Blade Runner Sequel

Director: Denis Villeneuve
Writers: Hampton Fancher, Michael Green

Following his expertly crafted studio pulp items such as Prisoners (2013) and this year’s Sicario, we’re excited to see what Denis Villeneuve will bring to the long gestating sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic Blade Runner. While Scott’s been busy juggling his planned trio of Alien prequels, a screenplay from original writer Hampton Fancher has received a co-writing credit from Alien: Covenant’s Michael Green. Notably, Harrison Ford is also on board, joined by matinee idol Ryan Gosling. As Villeneuve finishes up post-production on his 2016 title Story of Your Life, he’s confirmed pre-production is well under way for what he cites as his dream project.

Cast: Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling

Production Co.: Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, Thunderbird Films, Warner Bros.

U.S. Distributor: Warner Bros. (domestic/international).

Release Date: The sequel is expected to be ready for 2017, and we’d expect Warner Bros. to unleash its anticipated title sometime in the latter half of the year.
