Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2015: #89. Maiwenn’s Mon roi

Mon roi

Director: Maiwenn // Writers: Etienne Comar, Maiwenn

Actress turned director Maiwenn’s last stint behind the camera won her the Jury Prize at Cannes 2011 with the moving dramatic ensemble, Polisse. Formerly titled “Rien Ne Sert De Courir”, her latest, Mon roi stars Vincent Cassel and Emmanuelle Bercot, a woman who is more well known as a director (On My Way; Backstage) than an actress, and on top of its pedigree, sounds like an intriguing followup from the impressive Maiwenn. The film, shot back in March, recounts, over the course of several years, the passionate and intricate love story of a couple with a child.

Cast: Vincent Cassel, Emmanuelle Bercot, Ludovic Berthillot

Producers: France 2 Cinema, Les Productions du Tresor’s Alain Attal (Blood Ties), Studiocanal.

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available.

Release Date: Pegged with an October release in France, with her last film playing in the main competition and winning a major award, odds are in Maiwenn’s favor that this title will premiere in the same place (though Cannes 2014 saw Mathieu Amalric migrate from Main Comp to Un Certain Regard, an actor cum director who also won a major award with a previous title).
