Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2016: #84. Karim Ainouz’s The Beauty of Sharks

The Beauty of Sharks

Director: Karim Ainouz
Writers: Rob Green and Filip Jan Ryzma

We’ve been waiting years to see Brazilian director Karim Ainouz’s 1950 set French Riviera thriller The Beauty of Sharks. The project was announced as partially funded in early 2014 at the Paris Coproduction Village, and a shoot was scheduled for late 2014. No word on an update, though several sources list the title as a 2016 release, while several other unconfirmed sources list names such as Sharon Stone, Bill Nighy, and even Faye Dunaway (her name was originally attached during very early announcements several years prior) in the cast.

Cast: NA

Production Co./Producers: Royal Road Entertainment’s Filip Jan Rymsza, Americans Film Conservancy, Allotria Productions Ltd.

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available. TBD (domestic/international).

Release Date: Ainouz, whose last feature Futuro Beach premiered in competition at Berlin 2013, was recently announced as being attached to the omnibus 3 Lorca 3 alongside filmmakers Lluis Minarro and Roberto Caston. We hope to hear an update on Sharks in the near future, but chance are funding may have caused a partial delay in the proposed filming schedule.
