2014 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Zac Braff’s Wish I Was Here

He received unnecessary flack for his Kickstarter campaign, and while Garden State isn’t my cup of kool-aid, the 2004 dramedy which premiered at Sundance and almost instantaneously gained a cult-like following, might clue us in on why a decade later, he received the type of dollar support for a sophomore feature. Zach Braff once again wears several hats, appearing in front of and behind the camera (this August/September) for a picture that  might work in the same tone. Kate Hudson, Jim Parsons, Ashley Greene and Joey King were lined up for this one.

Gist: This tells the story of Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, husband and dad who at 35 is still trying to find his true place in life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially, and Aidan passes his time fantasizing about being the futuristic space knight he always dreamed he’d be as a little kid. When his ailing father can no longer afford to pay for private school for his two kids, and with the only available public school on its last legs, Aidan reluctantly agrees to attempt to home-school them.

Production Co./Producers: Double Feature’s Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg (Get a Job) and the Braff brothers.

Prediction: Would be a premieres category possibility ….but realistically perhaps a TIFF showing is in the cards.

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
