2016 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Kate & Laura Mulleavy’s Woodshock

banner-spotful

We have A Single Man to remind us skeptics that you can come from the world of clothing design and make lush contributions to the seventh art. Announced in Cannes this past May, Kate and Laura Mulleavy are taking a page from Tom Ford and jumping into feature film with a project that they’ve had on their docket for a while. Creators of the Rodarte brand (The New Yorker detailed their ascension in the biz), the sisters have seen their collections celebrated in art museums and championed by the establishment making this a curious first foray for onlookers in both disciplines. The West Coast based sisters landed BFF Kirsten Dunst for Woodshock, but details have been scarce on the type of shape this drama will hold. Filmed in Eureka, Calif between the months of July and August, what was remarkable about the first mention of the project is that A24 preemptively scooped up theatrical U.S. rights to picked up the rights to the film. Looking forward in seeing how fashionista wrangle the 7th art.

Gist: This is about a woman (Kirsten Dunst) who falls deeper into paranoia after taking a deadly drug.

Production Co./Producers: Waypoint Entertainment’s Ken Kao (Knight of Cups) and COTA films’ Ben LeClair and Michael Costigan (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile).

Prediction: U.S. Dramatic Comp or NEXT section for these newbies.

U.S. Distributor: A24.
