Top 20 Alternative Picks for TIFF 2013: Helene Cattet & Bruno Forzani’s The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears

Helene Cattet & Bruno Forzani – The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears

Section: Vanguard
Dates: Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Saturday 14th

Buzz: Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani are a Belgian directorial duo that made an intoxicatingly stylish ode to giallo cinema with their 2009 debut Amer (which also had one of that year’s best posters). They also were included in 2012’s horror omnibus The ABCs of Death, responsible for ‘O is for Orgasm,” one of the anthology’s more notable bright spots. After premiering at this year’s Locarno Film Festival, TIFF has included their latest collaboration in the Vanguard lineup (this time with a very giallo inspired title). A glorious melding of style, substance, and the macabre make this duo’s work one of the most exciting titles to grace the festival, though those unfamiliar with their inspirations may overlook it’s beautiful strangeness.

The Gist: A woman vanishes. Her husband inquires into the strange circumstances of her disappearance. Did she leave him? Is she dead? As he goes along searching, he plunges into a world of nightmare and violence…
