WB announces Watchmen six

SD's Comic Con officially begins today and we’ve got our first comic-book movie casting related news worth hollering about. Warner Bros. is drawing first blood by announcing an interesting mix of thesps to take the roles for the Vancouver shoot The WatchmenBilly Crudup, Patrick Wilson and Matthew Goode are put in lead roles (Crudup will play the fatalistic Dr. Manhattan, Wilson will portray Night Owl, a rich kid interested in birds and Goode will play the glamorous Ozymandias), while Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jackie Earle Haley and Malin Akerman fill out the other roles - Morgan has been cast as the Comedian, a Vietnam vet who's a member of the Minutemen, Haley is Rorschach, a vigilante, and the only lady of the prod is Silk Spectre, the key femme role.. You can connect the dots below with one of the graphic novel covers that visually list the characters involved.

After the many changes of hands and revisions, what is most noteworthy about this list is the omission of marquee A-list names. Obviously,  Warner Bros. Pictures  are banking on the material at hand, the core built audience  and hoping that Zack Snyder repeats the same sort of dollar trajectory as his last film 300.

Created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, this is one of the most critically acclaimed series in the genre. The comic is credited for redefining the superhero genre and often is referred to as the "War and Peace" of comic books. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes. "Watchmen" appeared as the only graphic novel on Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels since 1923. This follows costumed hero Rorschach, who is living a vigilante lifestyle because most masked heroes have retired or been outlawed. While investigating a murder, Rorschach learns that a former masked-hero colleague has been killed, prompting him to begin investigating a possible conspiracy.

Review: The Kid With a Bike

"Despite the one-dimensionality of its anti-patriarchal theme (appeasing the knee-jerk expectations of European film fest audiences), the Dardennes avoid cheapening the story with ideological smugness, achieving an emotional resonance without easy sentimentality."

Review: Wrong

"Encoded in the outlandish humor that pervades the film are bits of commentary on everyday life. The most overt is Dupieux's urging to appreciate the relationships around you, which is manifested in the dog kidnapping, but also in a subplot in which a woman from the pizzeria moves between men without even realizing they have changed. Another cultural critique is found in the rainy office, an instantly recognizable visual metaphor for how dreary a 9 to 5 job can be."
