It's in the 'Details' for Jacob Aaron Estes

Posted by Eric Lavallee on May 02, 2009
Source: Production Weekly

Not much here to expound on Production Weekly's Twitter feed which reveals that James McAvoy and Laura Linney are top-lining Jacob Aaron Estes' next film – a West Coast shoot in Seattle sometime this summer. I'll update the status of The Details once I get more details.

What I can add is that this would be Estes' first project behind the camera since 2004's Mean Creek – an engrossing coming-of-age portrait that saw demonstrated Estes' skill-set in developing great characters from a rather young ensemble cast. Last we heard is that Estes was set to work on The Gifted with Ralph Fiennes – I have no clue what the status is with this biopic.

Just saw on CNN that the funding has fallen through a few days into shooting "The Details," and that the crew left the private home in which they'd been shooting, in a state of destruction, with walls ripped out, floor torn up, homeowner distraught, etc.

Unofficial word is that they have a new backer and pre-preproduction will resume sometime soon.

Review: The Kid With a Bike

"Despite the one-dimensionality of its anti-patriarchal theme (appeasing the knee-jerk expectations of European film fest audiences), the Dardennes avoid cheapening the story with ideological smugness, achieving an emotional resonance without easy sentimentality."

Review: Wrong

"Encoded in the outlandish humor that pervades the film are bits of commentary on everyday life. The most overt is Dupieux's urging to appreciate the relationships around you, which is manifested in the dog kidnapping, but also in a subplot in which a woman from the pizzeria moves between men without even realizing they have changed. Another cultural critique is found in the rainy office, an instantly recognizable visual metaphor for how dreary a 9 to 5 job can be."
