If Nikki "toldja!" Finke's all inclusive piece on Wall Street II is accurate it would mean that: a. lensing begins on August 10th, b. release date is pegged for February 2010, c. the antagonist is Javier Bardem (a surprise since the actor is extremely selective these days) and d. the plot which until now had Douglas's Gekko return to the business world after an exemplary prison sentence, now includes details on the cast of other characters. Stone's Wall Street (circa 1987) was a winner back in the day, but in my estimation has aged horribly. Money Never Speaks' central narrative plucks from the wealth of fascinating financial world headlines of the current climate, which means we can expect some film coverage from Fortune magazine, but I cringe at the idea of a father trying in vain to make his daughter's life worth living again by protecting the exact spitting image of himself.
Shia LaBeouf "who is a young Wall Street trader who's engaged to be married to Gekko's estranged daughter. Shia wants to be a major player, but his mentor unexpectedly kills himself, and Shia thinks a stock-shorting worldwide hedge fund manager is responsible. Shia seeks revenge on this villain, to be played by Bardem. So Shia goes to Gordon saying, "I need your help", and makes a Faustian deal with Gekko who in return wants Shia's help getting back with the daughter."
