IONCINEMA.com's Remains of the Day (Monday to Friday) is a look at eight and 1/2 news items that we didn't have enough time to cover but are worth mentioning here. For July 29th we have fest news from Venice and Qatar and a pair of one sheets worth checking out.

1. Tribeca in Qatar
Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) today the team that will head up the inaugural 2009 Festival. Amanda Palmer (Executive Director) will lead the Festival and work with a team from Tribeca that includes Geoffrey Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, to shape the program. Fest runs between October 29 to November 1. Click here for film festival updates.

2. Nicholas Winding Refn Hearts ....
October 2009 issue of American Cinematographer magazine this month: Features on Campion's Bright Star and Larry Smith, BSC discusses the lush cinematography he realized for the brilliant Bronson.

3. Ang Lee Overload
The Film Society of Lincoln Center are presenting all of Ang Lee's work from the 1st of August to the 11th: Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Eat Drink Man Woman, Hulk, The Ice Storm, Lust, Caution, Pushing Hands, Ride with the Devil, Sense and Sensibility, The Wedding Banquet. More info.

4. By Ang Lee's Side
Venice invites Sandrine Bonnaire, Liliana Cavani, Joe Dante, Anurag Kashyap and Luciano Ligabu to join him on jury duty.

5. Sweden over the U.S.
You, the Living by Roy Andersson (Film Forum) is definitely a better option on opening day Wednesday than the Sundance misfire Adam (Fox Searchlight).

6. The Sage continues
Either Rachelle Lefrevre is looking to get away from the franchise, her agent isn't doing their job right or the franchise is looking to get more clout in terms of a headliner cast with Bryce Dallas Howard taking over the bad girl role in Twilight Saga: Eclipse. (That's part 3 folks). The red head switch is getting loads of feedback - see Variety's coverage.

7. Charlize's Back
The Burning Plain one sheet grabs from the film's first sequence, and while we like a naked torso from Theron, we'll point out the impressive perf from newbie Jennifer Lawrence.

8. Foreign Oscar Nom from 2008.
Vitagraph preems funky one sheet for The Baader Meinhof Complex

1/2. The September Issue: Get Your Anna Wintour Ringtones

Review: The Kid With a Bike

Review: The Kid With a Bike

"Despite the one-dimensionality of its anti-patriarchal theme (appeasing the knee-jerk expectations of European film fest audiences), the Dardennes avoid cheapening the story with ideological smugness, achieving an emotional resonance without easy sentimentality."

Review: Wrong

"Encoded in the outlandish humor that pervades the film are bits of commentary on everyday life. The most overt is Dupieux's urging to appreciate the relationships around you, which is manifested in the dog kidnapping, but also in a subplot in which a woman from the pizzeria moves between men without even realizing they have changed. Another cultural critique is found in the rainy office, an instantly recognizable visual metaphor for how dreary a 9 to 5 job can be."
