American New Wave 25: Class of 2010

Posted by Eric Lavallee on Jul 20, 2010

IONCINEMA.com's inaugural American New Wave 25 (Class of 2010) was a blast to unveil and we'd like to thank those who took a timeout from their busy schedules to provide us with, not only extra info relating to their filmography, but for allowing us to use their pics as well (e.g. Reed Moreno on the set of Elgin James' much anticipated Little Birds starring Juno Temple).

I'm extremely enthusiastic for the future of American independent film and obviously Park City, Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, SXSW, paired with the film scenes in Los Angeles, Austin and NYC continue to play a vital role in the success and renewal of the indie scene. I'm happy to report that breeding grounds for creativity and promising new voices are alive and well in other parts of the country: from Indianapolis to Minnesota and it extends past the borders into far away places such as Greece. So if you're a cinephile, continue to support indie film and if you're looking to get into the business, I suggest you get to work now as many folks on this list wear multiple hats. We're in a good shape folks and proof of it comes from several film projects named in the profiles: you can either click on each image below, or start here for an A to Z look.

Review: Kill List

Review: Kill List

"As the film crosses over into frenetic violence and foreboding happenings, the excellent soundtrack heightens the tension. When Jay begins to lose his cool, anxiety gives way to despair as events finally spiral out of control. Wheatley manages to get excellent performances from his cast, in particular the stunning MyAnna Buring as Jay’s wife, and proves he’s one of the best upcoming voices in British cinema."

Interview: Daniel Mulloy (Baby)

Brit Daniel Mulloy is an award-winning short filmmaker (over 80 fest awards folks) who belongs to both the extended Sundance filmmaking family and a celluloid loving family of his own -- we've featured his sister Lucy and her debut film, Una Noche which is headed off to Berlin next month. We've been keeping tabs on the helmer since 2006's "Antonio’s Breakfast," and it was last year where I got to speak to Mulloy about what should be the last of a string of shorts, before he embarks on the feature filmmaking portion of his career.
