The Black List Update: Picks 10 to 6 of 2006

Among some of the noteworthy items on the 2006 Black List that received the least number of votes (or wasn’t read by enough prod co. insiders) we find Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges which received 7 votes and picking up a pair of votes we have: Lewis Colick’s The Fighter which I imagine is the same project as the one that is receiving it’s Oscar bid release next week — it has gone through many rewrites and writers. We also have the first screenplay version for Life of Pi which was penned by Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillame Laurent, Peter Morgan’s Frost/Nixon which I imagine not many folks had the chance to read and Ron Harwood’s Diving Bell & The Butterfly.

Here are picks 10 thru 6.

10. Himmelfarb (Votes: 11)
Writers: Andrew Mogel & Jarrod Paul
Status: In Development

While rom com Himmelfarb is still being kept warm by Warner Bros, writing team Andrew Mogel & Jarrod Paul have moved onto bigger and better things. Reported just this past June, the Yes Man writing duo boarded Mandate Pictures’ and Rough House Pictures’ Bullies which is based on an original idea by Danny McBride…and keeping with the Rough House connection, they wrote a pilot for Fox TV which they co-created with Jonah Hill.

9. Seven Pounds (Votes: 13)
Writer: Grant Nieporte
Status: Released December 19th, 2008.

The Gabriele Muccino directed, Will Smith starring drama was meant to be Columbia Pictures’ Oscar title but it got mostly panned by critics. The film opened wide and made just under 70 million in its domestic haul with 160 million worldwide. The film’s budget was reportedly around the 55 million mark. Scribe Grant Nieporte hasn’t been attached to anything since.

8. Untitled Richard Pryor Project (Votes: 14)
Writer: Caleb Kane
Status: In Development

Back in the day Walter Hill was tapped to direct and Mike Epps was tapped for the role of a lifetime…but that was 2005. The most latest updates are Adam Sandler and Chris Rock are producing the biopic replaced Eddie Murphy by Marlon Wayans in the lead. The film now goes by the title of Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? and the busy Bill Condon has signed onto direct and make script adjustments and would most probably be his next project after Salmon Fishing in Yemen. As for Brad Caleb Kane, he had been brought onto The Historian, Uprising (a sci-fi film for Wolfgang Petersen) and as of last year, The View-Master based on the beloved toy.

7. Last Man Home (Votes: 15)
Writer: Jamie Moss
Status: In Development

Imagine Entertainment might have stalled Jamie Moss’ Last Man Home on purpose…either Ron Harwood has too many options on the plate, or this might appear to be too close to Brothers – another film about missing brothers in combat. In the mean time, Moss was busy delivering the original screenplay for Street Kings, the script for X-Men: First Class and revisions for Rise of the Apes.

6. These City Walls (Votes: 16)
Writer: Caleb Kane
Status: Unknown

This is about a young man who feels remorse after he delivers a teenage girl to his pimp benefactor and attempts to rescue her and himself from the mean streets of Eighties New York. Not much inroads have been made in this more modern Taxi Driver-esque type project. Status update on Caleb Kane above (see number #8).
