The 51st edition of the Critics’ Week opened with an award-winning British theatre director Rufus Norris’ feature debut, Broken. A tragi-drama that works with a tone that is one part whimsical and the other half violent, Tim Roth and the first time actress Eloise Laurence (in the role of Skunk) lead the charge in what could be called New Kitchen Sink films. Multiple storylines unfold in one section of a diminutive, middle income type neighborhood, where characters easily cross one another in what could be described as indoor and outdoor cockfights. Here is footage from last night’s world premiere screening – Semaine de la Critique director Charles Tesson presents the mostly cast and crew.
