Ask any French Canadian cinephile what are in their all-time top 5 films from Quebec and among the more popular choices you'll find C.R.A.Z.Y. After testing out the international film scene with The Young Victoria, Jean-Marc Vallée returns to French-language filmmaking and his specialty: films with a strong musical element. I'm looking for this film to further confirm the filmmaker's status as a viable export.
Attached to the project in a producing capacity since 06', Kate Bosworth is looking to appear in front of the camera in what would be Jean-Marc Vallee's first U.S. based film debut. The Canadian helmer known for several decade spanning, award-winning picture in C.R.A.Z.Y and his most recent effort in The Young Victoria (which receives a release this month via Apparition) will probably not tackle the Bosworth-starring Lost Girls and Love Hotels until 2011, as he is currently helming Café De Flore (a love story between a man and woman. And between a mother and her son.)
With big names like Cronenberg and Polley already announced a couple of weeks ago, it came time this morning to announced the rest of the home team for the Toronto International Film Festival. This morning, they filled in some of the gaps in the Special Presentations, Vanguard, and Real to Reel sections, and at the same time presented the full line-ups for their Canada First! and Short Cuts programmes, the former highlighting feature debuts, and the latter comprised of a whopping 43 Canadian short films running anywhere from 4 to 28 minutes long.
Now that we're done salivating over the unveiling of the Gala and Special Presentation screenings for 2011 Toronto Int. Film Festival, we now put our attention on the official selection of the Venice Film Festival sidebar know as Venice Days. Director Giorgio Gosetti has mounted an edition that includes some gem auteurs and newbie filmmakers we've been keeping tabs on for the better half of 2010/2011.
The Toronto FIlm Festival have announced everything Canadian (or in some cases co-produced with Canada) with the world premiere of Atom Egoyan's Chloe.
