The final tally and full list of films presented at this year's TIFF have been announced today and hardcore cinephiles will have many options available to them out of the 261 film selected.
Apart from our Top 100 (intro to the year ahead) preview list, IONCINEMA.com’s Fall top 20 is our favorite list to compile. The wealth of quality film selections makes this task of ranking films a difficult one - there are many films that didn't make the cut that I'd wait in line and pay the full price for.
The “auteurist theory” is put into practice in our final TEN – and not surprisingly, 4 of the top 10 projects I’d wait in a line to see on opening day have no distributor in place for the U.S market. The ten filmmakers (make that 11 with the Coens) represent a global sampling of what one might consider challenging cinema. I hoped that you enjoyed this top 10, and same time next year we should have some talk backs/forums so you guys can tell me what was omitted. Bon cinema!
Getting ever so closely to the Top 10, our top 20 is filled with an interesting mix of heavyweights (Tarantino, Cronenberg, Boyle and Wes Anderson) and up-and-comers (Sachs, Gillespie, Tarsem, Perelman). Enjoy!
