The noms are in folks (see full list below) and apart from the love that The Blind Side has received (the backlash has officially began around 9 eastern this morning), there are very little surprises -- which only means status quo on films and people that officially received the cold shoulder months ago.
The film is pure bliss, Tilda Swinton is not surprisingly, spot on and who knew, fluent in Italian and as I had remarked and so does this Magnolia Pictures press release, it falls into Visconti territory (The Leopard/Death in Venice).
It’s time again to crank up the Remake Machine (or Reinterpretation Machine) as Tilda Swinton and director Erick Zonca ready Julia, a film ‘inspired’ by John Cassavetes' late great Gloria. The road movie, about a woman who uses a young boy to extort money from the mob, will be Zonca’s American directorial debut. The film is slated to start shooting in mid-October, with Los Angeles and Mexico its chief settings.
While we have a stronger allegiance to the other Anderson, the child at heart Wes Anderson can't do any wrong with first loves, summer camps, concerned parents by enlisting the help of the likes of co-writer Roman Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited), regular DP Robert Yeoman and with Fantastic Mr.Fox's Composer Alexandre Desplat with a slew of supporting plays both new (Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel) and old (Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman). I'll be more buzzed about this when the first images and trailer arrive.
Our critics might have been seeing red, but that's because Lynn Ramsay third film is heavy on the blood colored motif. Stylistically and visually ambitious, this interpretation of the award winning novel on which the film is in parts based on, is drawing support from the home crowd, but its Tilda Swinton layered character and jarring performance that will give this film wings well into the second week of the Main Competition.
