2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Abbas Kiarostami’s Like Someone in Love

Gist: Considered a sort of sequel to Kiarostami’s 2010 Certified Copy, it reads like it could just as well be a cousin to the Iranian’s experimental feature, Five Dedicated to Ozu. In the film, which is set in Japan, a brilliant academic falls in love with a prostitute. Who knows what narrative hijinks will ensue.

Prediction: Now that a trailer has surfaced, any paranoia that it wouldn’t be finished in time for May has all but evaporated. This will be in the Main Competition, and has to be considered a favorite to take home the top honors.
