2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Leos Carax’s Holy Motors

Published on

Gist: I’m sure their might be sequel, a prequel or inspired-like portions from Tokyo! in what, on paper, sounds like a meta project that follows Denis Lavant’s manhole creature in and out of character. Known as DL, this shapeshifter roams the streets of Paris, takes on multiple personalities and first row witnesses in Holy Motors include Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue and Michel Piccoli (who recently played the confused cardinal in, We Have a Pope). Expect Carax to bend Lavant like plasticine and to test auds’ patience.

Prediction: I’d bet that Carax first feature film in more than a dozen years (since the Main Competition entry Pola X) has been rsvped for a showing in the Salle Debussy theatre, the same spot where the 2008 Un Certain Regard selected Tokyo! played.
