2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Park Chan-wook’s Stoker

Published on

Gist: This Blacklist mentioned screenplay co-written by Wentworth Miller and Erin Cressida Wilson centers around India (Wasikowska) who after her father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Prediction: Chan-wook has only presented a pair of films from his personal repertoire, both were feature in the Main Comp and both collected awards. The Tarantino lead jury awarded Old Boy with the Grand Prix and 2009’s Thirst grabbed a Jury Prize. With a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, Dermot Mulroney and Matthew Goode, Fox Searchlight will be gunning for a Cannes Main Comp showing, so if for some reason this doesn’t show up – Venice is the only other possibility.
