2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Ulrich Seidl’s Paradise

Gist: Details are a bit unclear as to whether this will be a 130-minute film with three chapters, or three separate films forming a trilogy, but either way, it’s got to be close to done by now. The project focuses on three women from one family; one travels to Kenya as a sex tourist, one spends time at a weight-loss camp, and the other tries to propagate Catholicism. With production plodding on and on (we predicted it as a ‘sure thing’ for last year’s Cannes), there is a chance that it has sprawled out into quite the ambitious beast.

Prediction: If it’s a 130-minute feature, chances are high for a Competition berth, though UCR is a strong possibility as well. If it is in fact three feature-length films, they could be lumped together to make a long, three-part marathon in an Out of Competition slot (ala Carlos).
