¡vamos! Iñárritu: Netflix Has Big Plans for “BARDO, Chronicle of a Handful of Truths”

After losing out on fellow Mexican helmer Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma going to Venice, I’m certain that Cannes topper Thierry Frémaux would have loved to lock down Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest oeuvre – but this time out the streamer won’t be the one to blame. Still in post-production, and expected to wrap by fall for what should be a Venice Film Festival premiere (plus Telluride), the Netflix folks are getting into the Iñárritu business landing the rights to revised title BARDO, Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. The project was going by Bardo (or False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths). Some are still holding their breath with concerns to Scorsese’s opus finishing on time for what would be an eventual late year release, but it looks like Netflix is packing a lot of heat with two high value projects.

This chronicles the story of a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker, who returns home and works through an existential crisis as he grapples with his identity, familial relationships, the folly of his memories as well as the past of his country. He seeks answers in his past to reconcile who he is in the present.
