Cannes Critics’ Panel: Haneke’s Amour Should Beat Carax’s Holy Motors

Published on

We asked our Cannes Critics’ Panel of experts to weigh in on who should win the three top prizes at the 2012 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and for our added amusement we also asked, which film do you think should win the Palme? The overwhelming favorite to win the big prize is Michael Haneke’s Amour — garnering with five first place votes, and one Grand Prix vote. The runner up in the predictions game goes to Leos Carax’s Holy Motors, which coincidentally is a favorite on our panel – as seven of the eleven who added their two sense worth would like to see the film win Palme. The runner up films that should be a threat according to our panel should be Jacques Audiard’s Rust & Bone, Cristian Mungiu’s Beyond the Hills and Sergei Loznitsa’s In the Fog, while Mud and The Hunt have their supporters. The break down for the Palme goes like this: Amour (5), Holy Motors (2), Rust & Bone, Beyond the Hills, In the Fog and Resnais’ latest all with one vote. You can view the grid below to see who’ll be the closest to predicting the outcome. Follow our twitter feed www.twitter@ioncinema for LIVE commentary!

Guidelines: Gold = Palme prediction. Silver = Grand Prix. Bronze = Jury Prize. Red = Hope Wins. Gold/Red Silver/Red Bronze/Red = predicts that it will place and would have preferred it to win.
