Fast & Furious: Alexandros Avranas’ Moving into “Love Me Not”

Published on

With Cannes in major prep mode, we have more international sales agent slate nuggets of info on international filmmakers we’re tracking. One of those is Greek helmer Alexandros Avranas. Coming off the English language, Jim Carrey starring True Crimes, Screen Daily reports that the filmmaker has placed what is called a “social” thriller Love Me Not on the pre production slate. Faliro House (The Lobster) and Les Films du Lendemain are co-producing. A little more digging on our parts, and we discovered that Miss Violence twosome actress Eleni Roussinou and Christos Louli will star in the pic.

Gist: Set against the backdrop of contemporary Athens and hinges on the impact of the ongoing immigrant crisis which has seen hundreds of thousands of people land on Greek shores. The tale revolves around a couple who hire a young female migrant to be a surrogate mother, moving her into their luxury villa for the duration of the pregnancy. The mother and girl bond but one night when the husband is away on business his wife goes missing.

Worth Noting: Avranas landed the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for his sophomore film.

Do We Care?: Among the brightest talents from the New Greek cinema, we’re looking forward to his third (Venice tipped) feature before we get into this domestic drama from hell.
