Oslo Accords: Rory Culkin & Caleb Landry Jones Join Jonas Åkerlund’s “Lords Of Chaos”

Indie actor Rory Culkin (Electrick Children, Gabriel) and Caleb Landry Jones (who’ll see Heaven Knows What receive its theatrical release at the end of the month and Gerardo Naranjo’s upcoming Viena and the Fantomes) are set to star in accomplished music video director Jonas Åkerlund’s fourth outing as a feature filmmaker. Variety reports that Lords Of Chaos is set to shoot in Norway during the fall with an impressive collection of producers onboard in Scott Free London, RSA London and the ever expanding Vice universe. Producing are Jack Arbuthnott, Kai-Lu Hsiung, Ko Mori, Fredrik Zander and Malte Forsell, and executive produced by Shane Smith, Eddy Moretti, Danny Gabai and Vince Landay for Vice, and Carlo Dusi for Scott Free London.

Gist: Co-written with Dennis Magnusson, based on real events, this charts a dream-turned-nightmare scenario for a group of teenagers who spiral out of control. 17-year-old Euronymous is determined to escape his traditional upbringing in 1980s Oslo. He becomes fixated on creating true ‘Norwegian Black Metal’ music with his band Mayhem and creates a phenomenon by using shocking stunts to put the band’s name on the map. But as the lines between publicity and reality start to blur, acts of arson, violence and a vicious murder shock the nation.

Worth Noting: Among playwright Magnusson’s creds, he is credited as a Script Editor for Thomas Alfredsson’s Let the Right One In.

Do We Care?: For those keeping score, Åkerlund’s last film Small Apartments was a notable failure nowhere near the brilliance in some of his video work. We’re hopeful that this is a nice Scandi companion piece to Moodysson’s We Are the Best!
