2013 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Joel & Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis

Published on

#2. Joel & Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis

Gist: Follows an aspiring singer-songwriter (Oscar Isaac) as he navigates the 1960s folk-music scene in New York City’s Greenwich Village. T Bone Burnett produced the film’s soundtrack which includes music performed by Isaac, Marcus Mumford and Justin Timberlake, the latter of which is also playing one of the starring roles in the film.

Prediction: With about one out of every three Brothers Coen pictures premiering in Cannes, we can definitely say they’re due (since 2007’s No Country For Old Men walked away empty handed, they’ve made A Serious Man and True Grit, which dropped at TIFF and in general US release, respectively). Despite the apparent period polish, this is believed to be a return to the more idiosyncratic side of the brothers’ sensibility, so a major festival showcase would be ideal for beginning its momentum toward the planned December release. Inside Llewyn Davis is a virtual lock for the Main Comp.
