#8. Doubt

Director/Writer:
John Patrick Shanley
Producers: Scott Rudin (Revolutionary Road, Stop Loss, Margaret)
Distributor: Miramax Films

The Gist: Written by Shanley, this is based on the Off Broadway’s Manhattan Theater Club play. Set in 1964, “Doubt” centers on a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him abusing a black student. He denies the charges, and much of the play’s quick-fire dialogue tackles themes of religion, morality and authority.

Fact: Shanley wrote “Moonstruck” and both wrote and directed “Joe Versus the Volcano”.

See It: Philip Seymour Hoffman will play another one of those uneasy characters while Meryl Streep and Amy Adams complete the tragi-drama bill. Looks delicous.

Release Date/Status?: I’m not sure if this opens in select cities or wide, but this is pegged with a December 12th release.
