#56. The Lie – Joshua Leonard

From The Blair Witch Project to The Freebie, actor Joshua Leonard has been a much appreciated presence in Park City. There is no other place on the fest circuit where we could imagine seeing him unveil his feature narrative directorial debut. With filming having been completed almost one year to the date, and populated with Sundance folk in Jess Weixler, Mark Webber, Kelli Garner and Jane Adams, I expect Leonard had ample time to prep The Lie for a fest premiere.

Life hasn’t turned out as planned for Lonnie (Leonard) and Clover (Jess Weixler). When they fell in love during college, they were young and idealistic…she, politically progressive and he, progressively artistic. However, after an unplanned pregnancy during Clover’s second year of law school, they were forced to flip the script. Lonnie put his music on hold and got a shitty job. As our film begins, Clover has just decided to abandon her activist, pro-bono tract in favor of a more lucrative career path in corporate law.
