2011 Sundance Predictions: Cary Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre

On March 11th, Focus Features releases Cary Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre in theaters. Even if Sundance was home to Cary Fukunaga’s breakout debut Sin Nombre, I seriously doubt whether the film the classic will take up a spot. Berlin appears to be a more likely candidate. Starring Michael Fassbender, Mia Wasikowska, Sally Hawkins, Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots and Judi Dench, this one is a slimmer than slim prediction on our part.

#20. Jane Eyre – Cary Fukunaga

Based on Moira Buffini’s screenplay adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s’ classic, Jane Eyre (Wasikowska), flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester (Fassbender). The isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. As Jane reflects upon her past and recovers her natural curiosity, she will return to Mr. Rochester – and the terrible secret that he is hiding…
