Arnold’s Fish Tank Hitting Screens in the New Year

I haven’t yet sat down to figure out my top ten films of the year, but Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank is somewhere along the top of the list. The question I ask myself moments before making the top of the year list is: how to fit films that overlap into the next calender year as will be the case with this film. IFC Films is releasing the contempo kitchen sink coming-of-age film in the month of January (the 15th to be exact). The pic has been released in the U.K since September.

Winner of this year’s Jury Prize at Cannes, Fish Tank tells the story of a volatile 15 year old girl Mia (Katie Jarvis), who is always in trouble and has been excluded from school and ostracized by her friends. One summer’s day her mother brings Connor (Michael Fassbender), a mysterious stranger into their home, who promises to bring change and love into their lives.

I had a sit down with Arnold in Toronto during TIFF, look for that interview weeks prior to the film’s theatrical release.
