Aronofsky stretches muscles for ‘Swan’

Despite lackluster box office results for his ambitious The Fountain, Universal Pictures are looking to team up with Darren Aronofsky on a feature that tugs at the world of ballet – and it is save to say that this won’t come close to Altman’s The Company. Darren (who is a festival judge at Sundance – I’ll let you folks know if I see him) also has a recently mentioned ‘biblical epic’ in the works – but might make this his next directing project.

To be written by John McLaughlin, Black Swan is a psychological thriller that looks at the manipulative relationship between a veteran dancer and a rival.

Variety reports that the studio is fast-tracking the project for Aronofsky – which would be produced by Aronofsky's Protozoa with Eric Watson, who partners with Aronofsky in their U-based Protozoa shingle, will produce with Phoenix's Medavoy and Arnie Messer. Brad Fischer and David Thwaites will exec produce.
