Get the foul Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx taste out of your mouths folks – it looks like Michael Mann might have found the best on-screen pairing since Pacino/DeNiro. Variety reports that Brit thesp Christian Bale
will join Johnny Depp in Mann's upcoming Public Enemies. I can picture it now Bale and Depp in top hats – yummy!
Drama is set during the great crime wave of 1933-34, when the government’s attempts to stop Depression-era criminal legends such as John Dillilnger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd transformed J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI into the country’s first federal police force. Mann wrote the script, based on Bryan Burrough’s 2004 tome. Depp will play John Dillinger, considered the most notorious gangster of the era, and Bale will play Melvin Purvis, the legendary FBI agent who led the manhunt for Dillinger.
Universal Pictures begins production in March. Bale would then follow this up with either Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins or the long gestating Killing Pablo.
