Oscar nominated thesps Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo have been confirmed, while Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska have been added to Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right – which is the filmmaker’s first film since 2002’s Laurel Canyon. Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Scripted by Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg (The Girl Next Door), this revolves around Joni (Wasikowska) and Laser (Hutcherson) who set out to find their same-sex parents’ sperm donor. Shortly after Joni’s 18th birthday, she and her brother are finally introduced to Paul, whose new presence causes antipathy amongst the close-knit family. Bening and Moore play the parents (Nic and Jules), and Ruffalo (who just completed his directorial debut which I predict should play at TIFF this Fall) plays the donor named Paul. Variety reports that production company backers include: Antidote Films’ Jeffrey Levy-Hinte (he produced Cholodenko’s Canyon and High Art) and Plum Pictures’ Celine Rattray and Daniela Taplin-Lundberg, UGC PH’s Philippe Hellmann and Gilbert Films’ Gary Gilbert and Jordan Horowitz.

Were you a fan of Cholodenko’s previous two pics (High Art and Laurel Canyon)? What do you think of the triple Oscar cast?
