Bullsh*t?: Julianne Moore in Talks for ‘Another Night’

With Robert De Niro and Paul Dano already on board, The Tracking Board is suggesting that Julianne Moore is in talks to join the cast of Another Night, based on Nick Flynn’s novel “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City.” Paul Weitz (American Pie, About A Boy, In Good Company) will direct the film from his own adapted screenplay and serve as producer through his and brother Chris’ (New Moon) Depth of Field Productions banner.

Tribeca Films and Corduroy Films are also producing. Filming is rumoured to begin on the Focus Features project as early as March, but has yet to be confirmed.

Gist: The memoir, which earned the author a PEN International Award, focuses on a young poet, who in his 20’s works at various homeless shelters in Boston, where he often intersects with his brilliant but troubled father.

Worth Noting: The project was originally announced back in 2009, with Casey Affleck attached to play the role now filled by Dano.

Do We Care?: It certainly seems to be a strong cast shaping up, but our concern lies with the director/writer. Weitz’s last three efforts were Little Fockers, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and American Dreamz, all commercial duds. We’re hoping this time around he’ll draw on the drama and diversity of some of his earlier films to present a thoughtful take on the novel’s strong examination of homelessness
