Cage ‘Rising’ to De Palma Project

Published on

Not since the age of The Godfather trilogy has there been such an interest in the mafia underworld. The success of HBO’s The Soprano’s has inspired Brian De Palma to revisit his mega-hit, award winning 1987 flick The Untouchables. The new project The Untouchables: Capone Rising is set to begin filming in June and looking for a 2008 release. The film is a prequel to the original and will cover Capone’s arrival in Chicago, rise to power and his relationship with detective Jimmy Malone.

Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the $70 million project being produced by Art Linson, who also headed the original. This would be a repairing of Cage and De Palma – both worked together on conspiracy-riddled, boxing match diversion called Snake Eyes (98'). Cage's sinking stock can be seen in Next and the upcoming sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
