Classic Composer Finally Gets Oscar Nod
With more than 550 scores to his credit, Ennio Morricone has established himself deeply in the subconcious, if not the hearts, of movie goers worldwide. At this years 79th Academy Awards, the acclaimed composer will be awarded an honorary Oscar for his 45-year career. The composer has brought to the screen such infamous scores as The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly(1966); an Italian classic which essentially ushered in the spaghetti Western genre and launched Clint Eastwood’s career.

At this years 79th Academy Awards, the acclaimed composer will be awarded an honorary Oscar for his 45-year career. The composer has brought to the screen such infamous scores as The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly(1966); an Italian classic which essentially ushered in the spaghetti Western genre and launched Clint Eastwood’s career.
Morricone has been nominated for five original score Oscars, the most recent for Malena in 2000, though he has yet to garner the coveted stauette. The 78-year old composer remains busy as he dots scores for the upcoming Brian De Palma helm The Untouchables, as well as numerous television and international projects.
Morricone first garnered international success with his score for the 1964 A Fistful of Dollars which he composed under the pen name Dan Savio. He went on to work on such classics as The Battle of Algiers(1966) and
Cinema Paradiso(1988). The legendary composer will receive his award at the ceremony on February 25.
