Cristi Puiu Gets Behind and In Front of ‘Aurora’

After wowing international critics and bringing much needed attention to the wave of important films that would come from Romania with his rather bleak, compassionless portrait called of The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu, Cristi Puiu is finally set to get both behind and in front of the camera with the second instalment in his “Six Stories from the Outskirts of Bucharest” series.

There are some indications that Puiu’s Scenes of a Crime (a project he brought to Cannes’ for funding) and Aurora (currently filming) are one of the same. The premise for Aurora is being kept under the lid, but what we do know is that it is a crime story where Puiu plays a 42-year old divorcee and father of two. Filmneweurope.com report that the European co-production (Swiss, France, Germany and Romania) is due to be completed by mid-May and no other cast have been announced. Chances for an appearance at next year’s Cannes film festival are favorable.
